Last Night’s Open Mic

March 9th, 2010

So we’ve rounded up a couple more mic’s, gathered up a gang of wonderful people, and we have quite the nice little Open Mic Jam Night taking place on Monday’s at Le Garage! It’s great!!
I love that it’s turning into a bit of a country/folk/roots night.
Hey, we need our places too right?!!

Thanks to all the wonderful people that come out… spread the word and let’s get that place even busier!!
Don’t worry, I’ll still be sure we can all get up to play!

Much Love

Melissa Plett and These Guys

January 23rd, 2010

Wow! We ripped it up last night!
Not so bad considering we only had 1 practice in there.
If you didn’t catch us at Le Garage you’re going to want to keep and eye open and an ear to the ground.

It was high energy, country flavored, bass pumpin’, drum soloing good times!

You want to sweat off some pounds, come on out and see us!

Much Love to Marie-Josee, Johnny Moonbeam, Alan Owen and Best Friend Terri.

We’ll be playing with a striped down version of the band out in Brandon. Catch us at the Lady of the Lake on Friday Night!

This time it’s true!

Yup! We’re in the studio! And what a studio it is!
The producer is friendly, funny, and keeps me pumped full of caffeine the entire time! Yeah, yeah, not great for the voice, but he’s getting me to belt it just fine!
I’m having such a good time I don’t even want to leave.
I just want to keep pumping out song after song… even if they are ones that should never be recorded!

I’ve had a lot of great experiences lately. Some of them include our well received brutal music video, finding out that someone down south has turned “Uh-Huh” into a ring tone, and have been asked to play a brides favorite one of my songs at her wedding in South Carolina next July!

Lots of scary things on the horizon, but a lot of fantastically exciting events as well!

Thanks for checking up on me.

Much Love
Melissa

Yay!

November 2nd, 2009

Well I made it home!
After being stuck in somewhere Wyoming for a couple days due to a snow storm, we have returned from a fantastic trip with a little “Uh-Huh” music video to share with you!

Yup, my Mom is amazing in it!

Enjoy and please let me know what you think!

Isn’t it Amazing!

October 24th, 2009

So many ideas and thoughts come to me while I trek down the highway. Then, once I FINALLY find a place to write or rest they’ve all escaped me.

Texas… oh Texas. There was something so romantic about the bareness of the place. Rolling hills with the odd cactus. Barely any animals in sight, but long driveways leading behind the hills… you know that’s what they are because of the mailboxes sitting next to the highway in the middle of nowhere.

We’ve met our share of interesting characters along the way as well… mostly abusers of some kind, booze or coke, and then some that are so overlay excited about being saved and heading to their ranches to feed the birds and talk to the lord. Joyfully telling us this while their buddies come into the station and buy booze at 8:30 in the morning!

I’m sitting now in Albuquerque, a place that looks a little TOO much like the real Mexico, looking for my next stop. My Mom is poking her head around the neighbor hood, hopefully spotting out new places to shoot the “Uh-Huh” video we’ve been working on.

Check me out on Facebook to see some of the photos!

Much Love
Melissa

See you later Nebraska!

October 22nd, 2009

Just finished up my little show at Meadowlark Cafe.
What a sweet little place!
After an inspiring conversation with our new friends, a new atlas and a new route from them to New Mexico to miss the ice storm… I have a couple little diddy’s building up inside of me!

Tonight we sleep in our car bed.
Tomorrow I write music and gear up for Albuquerque!
Fingers crossed we get some warm sun on us tomorrow as well
We’ve been following the rain the entire trek thus far.

Until tomorrow… good night and safe travels!

Omaha!

October 21st, 2009

We just arrived in Omaha after a great little set last night and an amazingly comfortable sleep in my car!

This night we opted for a hotel and… although I’m a cheap mennonite, I’m ok with it this one time.

I have a couple things to say about the trek down so far but haven’t had a proper meal in more then a day now. Believe it or not, chips and twizzlers don’t really provide a lot of energy even though they are apparently low in fat and high in protein. (So says the wrapper…)
So, I’ll have a show, eat a meal, and come on back to update the events thus far before heading out to another night of music.

*fingers crossed my voice holds out… I feel the cold a comin’!

Heading Out!

October 20th, 2009

So I’ve almost packed the car… I’ve said my good byes… and we had a super fun time at Le Garage last night. I’d say it’s time to get to the states!
Along with playing a couple shows, I’m hoping to film most of the music video for “Uh-Huh”, take the most amazing photos, and write a bunch of sweet tunes!!

Tonight I’ll be hitting up a place in Fargo ND!

Keep checking back for updates and I would LOVE to hear from you!!

Now THAT was a show!

October 11th, 2009

First off I want to thank Glen Jonatchick for graciously lending us a monitor, mixer, mic stands and more! It’s always great when you get booked at a venue with minimal equipment, that you someone kind enough to lend you there’s!

Then secondly the band that joined me… I’ve never enjoyed my music that much. They made it upbeat, interesting, and yes… almost dance able! Dale Brown - the fiddle king of awesomeness, Jonny Moonbeam who not only is a fantastic singer/guitar player, did an entertaining and creative job on the drum kit! (Who knew MurderHill Road could sound like a samba?!), Mike Kehler with his fancy bass fingers, and then the ever so fabulous Best Friend Terri with her wailing vocals helping me sound good throughout the entire night! Now, we just have to come up with a band name. Will it be “The Pie Charts”, “These Guys”, or “The Plett’s”?
Yeah maybe you’re right. Melissa and the Plett’s could be fun!

All in all the night was fun! All the sketchy Regal Beagle needs is an actual stage so that the drunks can’t attempt to talk into my mic in the middle of a song!
Yes, it was a success… bar room brawl and everything.

Much Love

Oh the country…

September 16th, 2009

As many of you know, I grew up in the country.  Surrounded by nothing but silence.
So, every once in a while I like to escape the annoying sounds of the city and hide away at my parents home…

Every time I come out here I bring my guitar with the hopes that THIS time I’ll get inspired and write something that I like.  Well, it’s been a pretty ‘quiet’ year to say the least.  Until this last week!

I don’t know if it’s going out and listening to more live music again that’s inspiring me, or being overall comfortable with my ‘lot in life’.  Whatever the case may be, music is finally flowing out of my mind, hands, and lips once again!  I am SO excited!

Please make a note to join me, with a full band, at The Regal Beagle on Friday Oct. 9th!  It’s going to be a rip roarin’ good time!

Melissa Plett has more then just the mellow music you hear here… trust me.  This night and our next CD will get ya jiggin’ in your seat!

Much Love

Melissa
